The old town in Arnsberg
Historic Arnsberg is steeped in history and shaped by the Arnsberg counts, the Cologne electors and the Prussians. The well-preserved historic town center is visible from afar on a ridge in a loop of the Ruhr.
A guided tour of the old town is an absolute must for every holidaymaker. Legends and stories about the Arnsberg counts, Cologne electors and Berlin officials give you an entertaining insight into over 770 years of history. A tour guide will lead you through the picturesque mountain town, show you winding alleyways, idyllic half-timbered houses and stately aristocratic courtyards, immerse you in the world of medieval jurisdiction and bring a piece of history to life at the imposing ruins of the Arnsberg pleasure palace built by the feudal lords.

It is the final touch that makes the audience applaud. In just over 20 minutes, the glassmakers heat a lump of blue glass, add white accents and shape it into a vase.
You can experience this unique craft technique up close at the glass manufactory in Willingen and even shape your own sphere. You can collect the decorative glass you have made from there the next day. This is how long it takes for it to cool down completely. Your unique piece will retain a lasting value for you. After the demonstration, you can browse and find what you are looking for in the exhibition and sales store.

The city of Soest
Most of Soest’s city center is a listed building, with a total of over 600 buildings. Some of the old houses on the many narrow streets, often bordered by green sandstone walls, are only a few meters wide, and in many older half-timbered houses the room height is also well below two meters, so that today, as part of renovations, some people have started to raise entire houses in order to obtain sufficiently high ceilings, at least on the first floor. Soest was apparently not always a half-timbered town, if old accounts are to be believed. It was only during the period of economic decline, i.e. from the 15th century onwards, that stone construction was replaced by the cheaper half-timbered construction. A special feature of Soest are the many gardens in the town center.
